SONY ANNOUNCED TODAY that the PlayStation 3 will support the new 3D Blu-ray specification that was finalized by the Blu-ray Disc Association. The specification will, require a 3D-capable display device to deliver the 3D images.

Consumers will have to also wait for the content to offer 3D support as part of the title.  The support on the PlayStation 3 will come as part of an upcoming firmware update, but no specific details on when to expect the update have been announced.  There is speculation that more details will come during the company’s announcements during CES in January.
