IBM IS MAKING A MAJOR NEW PUSH
to upgrade computer storage products and services it offers customers struggling to manage data being created inside their organizations.  The company announced more then 30 new or upgraded products or services today that are the result of a $2 billion investment over the last three years.  In addition to the capital investment made by IBM, thousands of IBM researchers and eight acquisitions of data storage start-ups have been part of this initiative.  The acquisitions and product development efforts inclided work on flash drives.

The new line-up of storage products and services are designed to help customers manage the transition from static data archives to dynamic storehouses ready to manage two-way data flows transmitted over the Internet.

The new products that IBM is debuting include a high-end disk storage system based on the product acquired from XIV in January that can contain up to 180TB drives. The DS5000 is a separate new disk storage system for midrange markets. The systems also come with a new version of IBM's storage virtualization software.
